Submit a request to the Federal Aviation Administration to verify the validity of your foreign pilot license. This process confirms that your foreign credentials are authentic and eligible for consideration. Download the form here: faa.gov — Foreign License Verification.
Once processing is complete, the FAA issues a verification letter. This letter documents the outcome of the verification and is required for later steps in the conversion process.
Depending on your citizenship and training circumstances, an application with the Transportation Security Administration may be required. This step addresses security-related requirements that apply to certain applicants.
A Biennial Flight Review is completed with a qualified flight instructor. The review evaluates general piloting knowledge and flight proficiency to ensure basic operating competence.
Attend an in-person appointment with a local Flight Standards District Office or an authorized Designated Pilot Examiner. During this appointment, required documents are reviewed and the FAA conversion process is finalized.
